Epomatt G-151

Product Description:

Epomatt G-151 is a special type of gloss modifier for epoxy-based powder coatings. Using 8-10 phr of Epomatt G-151 with an epoxy resin cured with 3-6 phr of an epoxy curing agent such as Estron’s Epoxy Hardener G-91, most accelerated dicyandiamides, or o-tolyl biguanide (OTB) can produce an exceptionally smooth, matte coating with good mechanical and chemical resistance properties. Epomatt G-151 is most suited for formulating epoxy powder coatings with 60° gloss less than 10%. A key feature of G-151 is the ability to maintain low gloss with low bake, e.g. curing as low as 140°C. The limiting factor for both low bake capability and low color advancement lies with the epoxy curing agent, not the Epomatt G-151. Another key benefit of matte epoxy coatings using Epomatt G-151 is good overbake yellowing stability which is linked to the choice of appropriate curing agent (such as OTB) for light colors. As with any raw material, laboratory evaluation is required for each formulation to determine the best processing method and the optimum concentration of the additive. Estron provides some additional formulating data and tips for G-151 in the Technical Briefs #1, #2.

Recommendation for Use

  • Powder Coatings
  • Epoxy
