Oxymelt A-2 is an additive capable of both reducing the melt viscosity of powder coating formulations and eliminating pinholes without affecting the applied film color. Oxymelt A-2 is noted primarily for its degassing capability in powder coatings cured in gas ovens. This degassing agent is well suited for polyester-HAA and polyurethane systems that emit volatiles during cure, and it is also appropriate for other traditional powder coating systems such as polyester-TGIC, hybrids, acrylics and epoxies. Oxymelt A-2 is a free-flowing powder which is convenient in handling, easy to disperse and reliable in performance. For each new formulation, an individual laboratory test is required to determine the optimum concentration for the additive. Typical dosages of Oxymelt A-2 are from 0.5 – 1.5% based on formulation weight. Oxymelt A-2 can be used as the sole degassing additive or in combination with benzoin. As with any silica supported additive, Oxymelt A-2 should be thoroughly evaluated to determine the best processing method and the optimum concentration of the additive, suitability for the application, as well as to test compatibility and recoat adhesion.
